Our client is working to become a trusted resource for clinicians, payors, policy makers, community representatives and the broader scientific community in rare/orphan and specialty diseases. They are looking for an authentic and experienced Area Sales Director (second line leader) for the Midwest Area. They will be a key member of the Commercial organization and will serve on the US Sales Leadership Team. This role will collaborate closely with internal partners to hire, train, and develop the most respected and high performing Sales and Sales Leadership Team in the industry. He/she will be responsible for shaping the sales strategy for the Midwest Area of the US, as a derivative of the national strategy, and leading sales execution in that area to ensure US success and overall market growth. This position is a field-based role and can be in or around a major metropolitan area within the Midwest Area. The states included in the Midwest Area: IL, MI, IN, OH, KY, WV, VA, and Upstate NY.

 

Responsibilities

Additional representative responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

  • Develop, lead, and execute a sales plan with specific goals and targets to maximize sales growth in the current rare disease market. Experience in recruiting and hiring Therapeutic Specialist (sales) and Regional Directors (front line leaders) in preparation for future launches.
  • Develop respected and high performing Sales and Sales Leadership Team in the industry.
  • Lead Sales and Sales Leadership team through one product focus to a portfolio selling approach.
  • HCP expert engagement and development: Identifies and establishes strong personal relationships with key and emerging thought leaders and customers and devotes the necessary amount of time to engage with HCPs.
  • Maintains exceptional knowledge of disease state, product, customer, orphan/rare drug market, specialty drug market, competitive products, and the broader healthcare marketplace.
  • Fosters an entrepreneurial culture with a focus on ownership and accountability to maximize individual and Company goals, and establishes open and transparent communication with subordinates, peers, and senior leadership.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of key sales enablers, in collaboration with internal and external partners:
    • Customer Targeting & Sales Territory/Region/Area Alignment
    • Sales Training
    • Key Performance Indicators and Sales Performance Dashboards
    • Goal Setting and Sales Incentive Plans
  • Collaborates with cross functional field leaders (Market Access, Patient Services), Medical, Legal, and Compliance) to achieve shared business objectives in a compliant manner
  • Performs all Company business in accordance with all regulations and Company policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrates high ethical and performance standards with all business contacts to maintain the Company’ s exceptional reputation within the medical and pharmaceutical community.
  • Lead by example to ensure the Company’s culture and values are embedded within their teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Successful product launch experience required as a second line sale leader.
  • Second line sales leadership required: minimum of 3 years successfully leading sales leadership teams with a proven record of success in exceeding goals.
  • Experience in building out (recruit and hire) top performing Regional Directors and Therapeutic Specialists
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in biotech/ pharma sales and sales leadership
  • Product portfolio leadership experience required.
  • Rare disease/pulmonary experience preferred.
  • Proven record of success through teamwork and execution
  • High analytical skills to help teams identify sales trends and opportunities.
  • Must have recent experience in successfully launching biotech/ pharma products, preferably in pulmonary, and a history of successful launches as a second line leader.
  • Experience building high performing teams, with a focus on culture and compliance, and launch excellence.
  • Prior product marketing, commercial operations, training, or account management experience preferred.
  • Strong business relationships in the Pulmonary and/ or Infectious Disease community highly desired
  • High learning agility
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Up to 50% travel
